Common Types of Trips aka Common Travellers

Year Long Travels

The gap year.
The gap year is probably the most common type of extended travel, undertaken by students in the year immediately after school, college or university. Travelling the world during this period is a very common goal. This enables gap year students to broaden their experience, increase their understanding of themselves and others, as well as being a fun and interesting time. After a gap year of travel, students are able to go to university or start a career with an additional level of confidence. This really does work.
Typical characteristics : most people in this group tend to be lone travellers or with a close friend, in the age 18 - 22 bracket, on working holiday visas, often doing any kind of job they can find.
Mid-Twenties Crisis
Vast numbers of people mid-way through the start of promising careers realize that this is not what they wanted to do their whole lives! This often coincides with finally paying off the debts from university educations, or the saving of enough money to put a deposit on a house, and then realizing that there is more to life than careers, office politics and material things, like increasing the size of the DVD collection. One massive positive out of all these negatives is that confused, possibly disillusioned career people can embark on one the most worthwhile experiences of their lives, which might well be life changing.
Typical characteristics : often the lone traveller, usually from a 'good job', discovering more about themselves than they had ever imagined. They are often found in very adventurous situations!
Pre-Kids (or Pre-house) Splurge
Couples stuck in careers, having worked hard for many years, seen nothing, could buy a house and would like to have kids - but how do you take kids to the Amazon rain forest? Many couples seem to go on these journeys, which become voyages of self discovery. They represent quality time spent together, getting to know each other fully and deeply in times of crisis, adventure and wonder. Most end up happily, but be warned when the chips are down some relations don't stand either the strain or the temptations.
Typical characteristics : couples, stable relationships, shared dreams. Matching fleeces or backpacks are giveaways.
Mid-Life Crisis
Holy cow - divorce, depression, battling the bulge, I gotta get out of here! No healthier way to cope with a mid-life crisis than to see something of the world, where things will really be put in perspective. In addition to all the other advantages, you will probably lose weight backpacking.
The typical characteristics are obvious.
Spend the Kids' Inheritance
You can't take your assets with you when you die, and the kids probably don't need or want your money to be left to them. So spend it - do some travelling, see the sites you have always wanted to before it's too late. Travel light, spend the extra which you have on slightly better hotels or more interesting adventures. Live your dreams while you can.

A test session consists of two tests, with a short break between them. The session will last approximately two hours. A score at or above the 98^th percentile on either of the two tests will qualify you for membership in Mensa. Two to three weeks after the test session, you will receive notification on whether you qualify to join Mensa. If you are dyslexic, or if your main language is not English, you may be give our non-language battery of tests at a different time. If this is the case, contact me directly so that alternate arrangements can be made. You must be at least 14 years of age to take these tests.

Due to limited space, reservations are required for this testing session. Please return the form below prior to the scheduled time, with your check or money order payable to American Mensa, Ltd., in the amount of $30 (no cash, please.) i think i have an ulcer. i got super angry last night, and all of a sudden, my head felt like it was going to pop.. and then... my stomach. so, i get home from work yesterday, and feel like cooking.. i go to the store, and pick up supplies for dinner.... i make spaghetti, and corn (yes, the two do go together) and bake brownies. what the hell? me? i NEVER cook, and then bake on top of that? it was awesome. troy comes home from work, and everything is ready to go. we sit and eat, and enjoy each other's company. he was so happy, it made it all worth it. i could do this everyday. today, i think i'll make king ranch chicken, and angel food cake....

it's official. troy and i are going with marilyn and frank to bangkok. we will be leaving december 30 of this year, and come back january 8 of 2006. i sent off my renewal for my passport today (it expires this year) and ordered troy's birth certificate so we can get his. i am so excited! marilyn and frank go about twice a year, so i feel better going with someone who knows the country well. our plans are to fly into bangkok, hang out there for a few days, then go to shangmai (sp?). in shangmai we will hang out with some locals that marilyn knows. we will elephant ride to our destination (how exciting!!)shop, drink, eat, and visit a huge buddhist temple. then we go back to thailand, and fly home.... i can't wait...

I had a little power nap, which is normally a good thing for me, but not this time. It was full of terrible, vivid nightmares. I dreamt that my ex was a snake, but wasn't really a snake, just tattooed like one. All over his face he had scales tattooed on it. On his eyelids, his ears, everywhere. He also split his tongue, and he was hissing at me calling me a dirty whore. Nice. He could slither like a snake, even though he was still in human form. Anyway, I was running from him (i am terrified of snakes), and then I woke up. What could this mean?

am i a spoiled brat??

I went to the doctor today, and ended up getting a big ol' shot in my ass. I have strep throat (no longer contagious) and an infected spider bite. Nice. I was also prescribed pain medicine, and more antibiotics. Anyway, when I went to the pharmacy to fill my prescriptions, I realized how incredibly lucky I am. There was a woman there with her 3 kids, who couldn't afford to buy her daughter medicine. Her kids were incredibly well behaved (which you don't see too often these days), and you could tell the one daughter was feeling terrible. The mom only had $50, and the medicine was almost $100. My medicine w/my insurance cost me $25. I felt so bad. Anyway, I gave her $5 (all the cash I had) and wished her luck. Jeez, I hope she is able to get the medicine. Something has got to be done about the non-insured population in America.

so, i just received a notification that i have a warrant out for my arrest. i got a speeding ticket about 2 years ago, and i forgot to pay it. i never received a notice, so of course, i never paid it. slipped my mind. anyhoo, i guess i'll have to fork over almost $500 tomorrow to pay for it. (i hope they accept a payment plan)..
